Our third VSF Junior Graded Series was a doubles event, again held
at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre, on the same courts
used for the doubles at the Commonwealth Games. With 50 entrants
participating it showed a growing number of players are interested
in trying doubles in the hope of one day representing Australia,
if not as a singles player but maybe as a doubles combination. This
event followed on immediately after High Performance Program training
session (run from 9-10:45am) which culminated with the dreaded "beep"
test. With all doubles competitors and their families spectating,
the crowd was treated to a great finale, with Rex Hedrick outlasting
everyone and achieving level 13.12 to a round of enthusiastic applause!
Events
were conducted for A, B, C, D, E, Novice and grades and it was pleasing
to again see new players particapating in our Junior Tournament
Circuit.
Fun
was had by all that participated, the results in most cases were
very close coming down to a sudden death play off and in two of
the grades we hade to have a count back to determine a final placing
due to the close competition.
Despite
our delayed start, due to the beep test, the event ran to time all
day, due to the co-operation of all players in being ready to take
to the court on time and assisting with marking and refing duties.
