Our
most recent junior graded event was conducted at Knox Squash Centre
on Sunday, 23 July, after High Performance Program training and
it was fantastic to have another successful tournament there! We
were extremely excited by the number of new players who competed
in their first VSF event and welcome them into our growing squash
family!
With
Karen being in New Zealand (at the World Junior Men's Squash Championships),
the event was run by our Development Officer, Mark Ikin, with the
assistance of Richard Cagliarini. Thanks very much to both of them
for running a smooth tournament, despite a few last minute withdrawals
due to the dreaded flu.
There
were some exciting, close matches, many being drawn on the bell
having to go to sudden death - you can't get much closer than that.
So our gradings seems to be pretty much 'spot on' these days, we
even got it right with all the first timers! Thanks and a big congrats
to all players who, as always, co-operated with being on court when
scheduled and completing their marking/refereeing duties - this
always ensures the event runs to time.
Again,
we must also thank Bev Murphy, who kept you all well fed at the
canteen. Thanks to Bev for organising the canteen, and to all parents
who assisted her in some way, which raised much needed funds for
this year's state team and our general junior fundraising pool.
Looking
forward to seeing you all at the GRADED STATE TITLES for Doubles
and Singles - both events coming up on August 13 and September 10
respectively.
