Our most recent Junior Graded event was held at the Ky Squash Centre
in memory of Noel Hubble. The tournament was jointly run by VSF
and Dean Hubble with support from Lyn Proulx, Bev Hubble and numerous
other enthusiastic club members who willingly gave their time on
the day. And what a fantastic day it was ...
Events
were conducted for A, B, C, D, E, Novice and Beginner grades with
51 entrants competing. This is a great result, especially since
we were playing at a four court venue - there was non-stop action
all day.
It
was pleasing to see the continuing trend of many new players competing
in their first VSF tournament. Well done to Wangaratta and Squash
Logic Melton who organised buses to bring large groups of players
along for the day.
There
were many close matches throughout the day with quite a lot, including
the finals and play-offs, coming down to a sudden-death rally to
determine the winner when scores were tied on the bell. This provided
an exciting atmosphere with players and parents really enjoying
the day out.
As
per usual, all players are to be congratulated for their enthusiasm,
great sportsmanship and efforts on the day. We really have a great
bunch of kids playing in our junior tournament circuit, which is
building all the time, and their participation and co-operation
really makes the tournaments as great as they are!
Again,
the board games and card games were a huge hit with players who
were killing time in between matches, especially our younsters.
It was funny to see the kids trying to play Twister in the limited
foyer area - probably doubled as a great warm-up and strech before
their matches!
Thanks
to the great hospitality of Ky Squash we were all treated to a delicious
BBQ lunch with the record being taken out at 6 sausages by one of
the local lads.
The
presentations were fantastic with great trophies up for grabs. Our
thanks to Budget Trophies for providing such high quality
trophies. Congratulations to our event winners and runners up and
to Jackson Milne who won the
Squash Enthusiast Award.
