Our
second Graded event for the year was held at Squash Logic Melton
on Sunday, 5 March, after High Performance Program training and
was our BIGGEST YET! A massive 27 new players took part in their
first VSF tournament bumping the entry level to an all time high.
Welcome aboard to all those new comers and thanks to all coaches,
players, and their families who attended and contributed towards
a fantastic event. Thank you also to Squash Logic Melton - it is
great to see a newly openend squash centre growing and expanding
(a 7th court was opened on the weekend!) after only 12 months.
The
place was buzzing with a massive 108 matches to get through, the
centre packed to capacity with players, their families, other spectators
and coaches - what a day!
The
sausage sizzle and canteen were terrific keeping us all more than
well fed all day and the icy poles were a hit in the hot weather.
An army of helpers ensured that the tournament ran smoothly, so
thanks to all involed - you know who you are!
Congratulations
must go to all competitors who coped well in the heat, with no complaints,
and co-operated with tournament control in being prompt to collect
and return score sheets. This really did ensure that the day ran
smoothly and on time which was critical with so many matches to
be played.
The
highlight of the tournament was the number of entrants in our lower
grades. The Beginner section had a full draw of 8 players, with
some players as young as 6 and 8 years of age (Calvin and Bodin
- they were so cute!). The Beginner section is really all about
getting youngsters onto the court using rules that suit their level
of experience and against others of similar ability, providing a
taste of competition squash. Our Novice section was huge with 10
entrants - the biggest so far. We hope that these younger/newer
players are encouraged to keep playing more of our graded events.
Thanks
to everyone who stayed right until the end for presentations - the
FREE Prince showbags to every entrant were worth the wait, the tophies
were awesome and our guest presenter, Sam Brown from Prince, was
very impressed with the standard of play and the way the event was
run. Congratulations to Carlee McCallum (Bendigo) who was
selected as the lucky winner of the Prince
Achiever Pack which consisted of a top of the range
Prince Racquet, latest O3 t-shirt and groovy water cooler.
