2006 SPRING CARNIVAL GRADED FOR AGE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Epping Squash Centre,
Sunday 12 November 2006

This was our first junior event conducted using our NEW Graded for Age format. These events replace what were known as "Junior Age" tournaments. The main difference is that now players compete in mixed grades (just like our regular graded tournaments ie. A, B, C Grade etc) instead of age groups, but will receive points towards both their state junior age ranking and graded ranking based on their overall finishing position.

As our new rankings year for 2007 began on 1 November 2006, the Spring Carnival was the first event that counts towards next year's rankings. This year the event was held at the Epping Squash Centre and being one of our smaller tournament venues with only 5 courts, there was non-stop action all day.

What is normally a small tournament due to it being during the year 11 and 12 exam period, turned out to be extremely well attended with 48 entrants battling it out in best of five matches, playing to 9 points using traditional scoring.

Once again, it was terrific to welcome more newcomers to our growing tournament circuit and the gradings for the day seemed to be spot on, making for extremely close and exciting matches.

Although the schedule was tight, all players must be thanked and congratulated for their readiness to take to the court on time and their co-operation with quickly collecting the score board for the match following theirs. This enabled us to finish a little earlier than had been anticipated, which everyone appreciated (especially those travelling from Lakes Entrance, Sale, Bendigo, Milawa and Ballarat!).

Thanks must also go to our friendly hosts for the event, Epping Squash Centre owners, Lynne and Ray Spark. As always, the centre and courts were in great condition and this venue is very well presented and maintained.

RANKINGS: This was a state rankings tournament which offered rankings points for the following age groups: 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 & 23 for both boys and girls. All entrants in this event will receive points towards an OFFICIAL VICTORIAN RANKING. The next rankings are due on 1 January 2007.
