This year the 2008 Junior State Titles determined the final placings in a couple of our age groups for our State Team. Competition was at a high standard giving a lot of the spectacters plenty of entertainment. Our final under 19 boys match of the day proved to be the best one with the result making a three way tie on rubbers. After the count back the eventual winner was Brad Soutar and Sam Hunt runner up.
It was great to see the 11 players from Tasmania make the trip here to play the tournament giving them great a experience. Weldone to Julie and Melanie for looking after them I am sure the players appreciate your efforts. Congratulations must also go to Sarah Lindsay from Tasmania for taking out the Under 13 Girls title.
As
always, at Westerfolds, we had a great tournament. Thank you to
Olivia Kent for allowing us the use of her venue. Thanks also to
Brad Kemp for assisting with the running
of the event. I want to thank all the players for thier co-operation
when asked to mark or ref additional matches.
The
atmosphere was warm and friendly with our 'regular' and growing
number of supporters along with some new faces which was great.
There was a large group of friends and family members supporting
the players along with some of the best coaches in the state.
I would like to acknowlege the presence of VSF President Ian Kent and John Gonsal from the board, making a special effort to be at the STATE TITLES along with our new Excecutive Director Fiona Young. It is good to see the members of the board at tournaments from time to time watching the players, taking an interest and seeing what is happening with our juniors.
A
great canteen was on offer. Thank you to Michael and Barb Robinson, Norman More and Leslie Pickerd from the Westerfolds commitee
who assisted in the canteen.
As we did last year we annouced the members of the Victorian Junior Selection and
Ranking Commitee were present to input results from each age group
as they were completed, into the computerised ranking system from
which we were able to announce the State Team for this year. Click
